History

Peel Green Cemetery was opened in 1879 and covers 32 acres, initially with 3 separate chapels. In 1955 the non-conformist chapel was converted into a crematorium. Originally the entrance to the cemetery was from Liverpool Road and traffic would have driven through the car park between our showroom and the cemetery lodge (now a child therapy centre).

Our showroom is on the left as you approach the cemetery gates and was opened in October 2019.

Peel Green Cemetery has a green flag award, a mark of excellence that recognises the best green spaces in the country.

Opening times

There is no cemetery office at Peel Green Cemetery any more, enquiries need to be made at the cemetery office at Agecroft which is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4:30pm and on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 4:30. Peel Green Cemetery is open to vehicles and pedestrians from 8am to 8pm between April and September and 8am to 6pm during the winter months and on bank holidays.

Peel Green Showroom

Our showroom at Peel Green is open 4 days of the week from Monday through to Thursday 9:30 - 2:30. We are also able to offer appointments at other times if required. Whilst it is not as large as the one at Agecroft, it still has most of the memorial shapes and colours displayed in a variety of different sizes.

Cemetery Layout

Peel Green Cemetery plots have letters but originally all numbers were unique within the cemetery so rather than restarting the numbering at 1 on plot B they continued on the last number from A. In hindsight they have realised this actually makes it harder to find graves and work out what numbers to allocate when creating new plots so the newer cremation plots have numbers starting at 1 on each plot.
