Five generations of our family have specialised in the crafting of individualistic memorials of the highest quality. For advice and support, trust our family to look after your family as we have been for over 125 years.
Often it is the first time you will be buying a memorial. Our handy guide explains the things you should be thinking about when purchasing a headstone, with advice from rules and regulations in the cemeteries and churchyards to making the memorial a personal tribute.
Cremation memorials are generally smaller than those on full burial graves but, as you can see from this gallery, you can still personalise and create beautiful headstones in a smaller form.

Traditional or lawn memorials are usually placed on burial plots. Cemeteries will have regulations over what sizes you are allowed which our staff will explain to you.
We have an exceptionally large range of standard designs we are also able to add designs based on your artwork or photographs.
Kerbsets, gardens or surrounds are allowed in some cemeteries. Styles and size can vary based on preferences and regulations.
Sometimes even our extensive range doesn't quite have the right memorial for you. Our skilled craftsmen can also work from your ideas to create stunning bespoke memorials.
Founded at the end of the 1800's by Samuel Critchley, S Critchley & Son is now owned and run by his great-great grandchildren, Robert and Sian, ably supported by office staff and masons.
When we couldn't accept visitors during Covid we created virtual tours of the showrooms so that families could still get an idea of memorial shapes and layouts even though they couldn't come and visit us. These are still available if you aren't able to get in to see us in person.
